Words after viewing Baichwal and Burtynsky's "Watermark" and Jia Zhang-ke's "Still Life" in quick succession: Fall out of a beautiful tree and hit every branch on he way down; each impact decelerates the eventual arrival on solid ground. Each of our consciousnesses is a village on the Yangtze in 2006: undergoing demolition; inhabitants in hope of new homes; clearly marked to indicate how completely it will be submerged. Gorgeous freedom. Three Gorges Dam. A campaign to revive the physical object, culminating in a lavish multi-disc box set of long-forgotten, swiftly realised but genuinely fascinating B-sides.
