Words by Josie, in answer to a counsellor's questions: "Why couldn't she wash up?" It would be a waste of her time. I've never met someone whose washing up meets my exacting standards. I'd just end up rewashing it later. "Why couldn't she help cook?" I wanted to demonstrate that, even though I'm incapable of gourmet cuisine, I can at least cope with cheese on toast. "Why didn't you tell her about your internal conflict? Or how you felt in the kitchen?" I was focussed on a task. The task was interrupted. I attempted to focus on the task and the interruption simultaneously. Only later did I appreciate the conflict and acknowledge the feelings. "Why didn't you ask her to stay?" I think I did. Or perhaps instead I tried to convince her not to leave. "How would it feel to let her take a bigger role in the kitchen?" She's cooked for us twice before, and I'm happy for her to do so. On this occasion I wanted to return the favour. I don't always want to rely on others. "What are you most scared of?" Adhesives on my skin and clothes. Children with tiger face paint. Melted chocolate on my fingertips. Going blind. Nice new towel x20 / Night-time for owl x15 / Neither fish nor fowl x12.
